ALPINE William E. “Bill” Lockhart was born on April 26, 1943, in Alpine, Texas to Dr. William E. and Lora Bell Kunze Lockhart. He died July 3, 2007, in a Waco hospital.
Bill graduated from Alpine High School in 1961 and attended Sul Ross University and the University of Texas at Austin, receiving an MA in Political Science and an MA in Biochemistry. He was a licensed Nutritionist.
Bill served his country at the Ft. Buckner Army Post Office, Okinawa, from 1966 to 1968. He then taught political science and nutrition at Austin Community College for many years and was lead nutritionist for a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinic in East Texas during the 1980s.
He was a compassionate, loving Christian, forever forgiving and seeking the good in others. He had many life-long friends with whom he stayed in touch over the years. He loved learning and computing and was a body builder and health advocate.
His family expresses gratitude to the wonderful health professionals in Alpine, Dallas and Austin, and to the Veterans’ Administration Health Services.
Under the direction of Geeslin Funeral Home, services were at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpine on Sunday, July 8, 2007, Pastor Jobeth McLeod officiating. He was buried in Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine.
Contributions in his name can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, to the general scholarship funds of Sul Ross University or Austin Community College or to the First Presbyterian Church in Alpine.
